Wade received Kodak's coveted Gallery Award at the Tennessee 2011 Annual convention held August 19th - 23rd in Franklin, TN. Wade's print was titled "Making It Happen" and was an image of a local Lenoir City Girl's basketball player. Wade has been invited to enter his print on a National level to compete with the best of the best in photography! The following is a description from Kodak explaining the Gallery Award process.

Kodak introduced the Gallery Awards in 1985 as a way to honor
and promote the importance and value of excellence in professional
photography.

Kodak has always represented quality imaging through its many
products and services and will continue to work to elevate the
importance of professional, quality imaging within the industry, as well
as with customers. It’s a connection we’re pleased to make.
Therefore, we are delighted once again to salute and support
outstanding professional photography and photographers by
presenting our annual Gallery and Gallery Elite Awards. The Gallery
Awards are judged on a state or regional basis, with winners going on
to compete at the national level for the Gallery Elite Award.
Gallery Awards will be presented, throughout the year, at annual
Professional Photographers of America (PPA) regional and state
conventions — in addition to those events’ customary awards.
The annual Gallery Elite Award will be judged prior to the national
PPA conference and trade show and honored at the Gallery Elite
Award Gala, held during the PPA’s national gathering, “Imaging USA,”
traditionally in January of each year.

Photographers will be considered for a KODAK Gallery Award in each
of the following fi ve categories:
• Portrait or Landscape Print
• Wedding Print
• Illustrative, Commercial, Electronic Imaging Print
• Printed Album or Book (any category)
• Print or Album using KODAK PROFESSIONAL ENDURA Metallic Paper

A region and/or state organization may award up to fi ve (5) trophies
total, in any combination of the designated categories. For example, if
there are no entries to be judged or that meet the judging-point criteria
in a certain category, more than one Gallery Award may be given in the
other designated categories. However, Kodak prefers that one Gallery
Award be given in each of the fi ve categories, provided each entry
has achieved the minimum 80-point criteria. The primary purpose
of the awards is to recognize and further the use of professionallyprinted
photography, especially if it utilizes KODAK PROFESSIONAL
Products (papers and chemistry). Therefore, Gallery and Gallery
Elite trophies are intended to be awarded for prints and printed
albums, not electronic-only images and video albums (e.g., CD,
DVD), which are outside of Kodak’s intended purpose.

Here is the deal:
First, call Gallery Portraits at 865/670-7600 to set up your child's Christmas Portrait.
Second, go buy a toy that would be suitable for children ages 10-14. (examples are sports balls & equipment, hand held games, arts & crafts sets, action figure sets, or fashion doll sets. These just some suggestions for gifts in the $15 range.)
Third, once you have your toy double check your scheduled time at Gallery Portraits and then bring your child in an outfit that you would like to have their portrait made in. At the Gallery Portraits you will be asked to drop your unwrapped toy in the Mission of Hop Barrel then we will begin your child's portrait session.
Fourth, upon completion of the 15 minute session, you will be shown your images via electronic imaging and here you will make your purchase decisions! After making your selections and paying for your order you can rest assured that your images will be of the highest quality!
Fifth, upon completion of your order, Gallery Portraits will call you to make arrangements for you to pick up your order!

This past August the Tennessee Professional Photographers held their annual convention in Franklin, TN.

Wade was selected as a 2010 Top Ten Photographer. This is the second year in a row that Wade has been selected to the TPPA Top Ten!!!!

Wade received his Tennessee Service Degree.

Wade received First Place in the "Portrait of a Male" category.

With Greatest Honor!

Summa Cum Laude!!!!! With the greatest honor. Used to express the highest academic distinction. Well that is how you can describe it...but I prefer to describe it as my son! Philip graduated on May 8, 2009 from the University of TN with honors, ie: Summa Cum Laude! Joy and I could not be any prouder! Philip's degree is in Biochemisty and Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Music!!! With all of this and believe me that is a lot, he still graduated in 4 years....ON TIME! I am impressed!

So, I guess you might be wondering what is next......well me too! Philip is currently employed at Children's Hospital in Knoxville and will continue with that while he studies for the MCATs. Talk about dedication! Once he completes that, then the plan is to start the application process to med schools. I have to say that whichever med school gets Philip, will benefit from having such a dedicated and driven individual in their program! I expect great things for him, as I know God has a plan for him....a REALLY BIG plan! And mine and Joy's prayer is for Philip to obedient to His call to serve!

So, around the Tipton household it has been extremely busy this past winter and spring. Joy is very busy with her decorating business and doing so very well. She is one very talented and gifted person. She has a gift.....a gift that allows her to visualize a completed project in place and then the ability to make all come together! Her clients love her and I do too!!! She IS the best! As for me, well....let someone smile and I will snap an image of them! Tonight, I photographed two 4 month old twins. These adorable twins, Tanner and Taylor, are the grandchildren of one of my classmates from High School. Photographing them was a pure delight! Kids are GREAT and when you can see the love in the Mother's eyes for her children....you most certainly can see the love they give back! This is unconditional!

Time really does fly! "and then one day you find that ten years have got behind you" Seems like yesterday, Joy, Philip and I packed our belongings and moved to East TN! 13 years this June! We love where we live now and it has been a good move for us! I do enjoy coming home to Southeast Missouri (the Bootheel) and feel extremely blessed to be able to continue to photograph the lovely and wonderful people of Caruthersville AND the wonderful people of the the Bootheel area! This is a unique area to photograph in, one that is a challenge! In the past few years the challenge more than doubled after the tornado and then the ice storm from this past winter. The Bootheel just does not look the same. THE people never looked better! They are strong because the had to be and they are better off for it!

What a weekend!

Well today....I get to leave Jackson, TN and head home. I have been in the Missouri Bootheel photographing Seniors, Cheerleaders, Homecoming Candidates, Basketball games and a Sweetheart Dance! What a Great time at Hayti High School!!!! I did all of this on Friday, February 27th and decided to head home to Lenoir City on Saturday. That is when I ran into a bit of a delay! My transmission went out on me around Alamo TN and I had to be towed into Jacskon. It is now Tuesday, March 3rd my "smoked" transmission is fixed and I am ready to head home!

Wade has become an affiliated photographer for the non-profit organization, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. (NILMDTS)

Three short years ago, one mother and one photographer connected to form a non-profit organization placing professional photographers with families in need of remembrance portraiture. Currently there are 5,000+ professional photographers in 20+ countries who volunteer their professional photography services to the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation. As a volunteer member of the organization, I would like to share with you how we are helping families in Knoxville and surrounding areas. When nurses or social workers at hospitals that have agreed to work with NILMDTS call me on behalf of a family, I then pack up my gear and head to the hospital. I first offer the family my condolences on their loss or impending loss, and then I get to work, knowing that the images I capture will be their only connection to that child once they have said goodbye. Some of these babies pass away at or near birth due to genetic defects, pregnancy trauma or stillbirth. In other cases, doctors have tried everything they can to help find a cure for whatever ailment the child suffers from, but the hospital then calls me when the family has realized all efforts have been exhausted and they will soon be disconnecting life support. In some cases, I am able to capture the last images of this child’s time here on Earth; In other cases, the parents are more interested in seeing their child memorialized eternally at peace, meaning once the child has passed and no cords or IV’s are connected.

Mission Statement –
Our mission is to provide bereavement photography free of charge to parents experiencing the death of an infant or small child through illness, trauma or stillbirth and to help them begin their healing journey.

A Brief History of the Foundation –
When co-founder Cheryl Haggard lost her son in February of 2005, she knew that her family’s healing was going to come by remembering details about Maddux, not by forgetting that he existed. Her husband contacted local photographer and eventual co-founder Sandy Puc’ and requested her services in helping to memorialize young Maddux. Over time, memories fade, but these cherished photographs will last for generations and help show the love that was shared between this young boy and his family, no matter how brief his stay on Earth was. From these beginnings, the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation was born. Today, the organization encompasses 5,000+ photographers worldwide who volunteer their services by creating sensitive images that will last a lifetime. We have also grown from an all-volunteer status to a small staff whose full responsibility it is We believe the images of these precious children serve as an important step in the healing process and that this opportunity should be available to all in need regardless of socio-economic status. To this end, our entire network of professional photographers graciously donates their time and talents to this noble service. If you were to assess a dollar value to each session, including the cost of travel to and from the location, execution of the onsite photo shoot, retouching of images, a DVD with a musical slide show and a CD with high-resolution images, it would equal approximately $2,000.

Our main web site, http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/ has 1,800 to 2,000 unique users per day who visit an average of 16 pages per session. That equals approximately 30,000 page hits per day, or approximately 11 million hits per year.

Current Programs and Accomplishments –

Our most prolific program is our photo session for infants from 25 weeks until after birth who have been or will be lost to critical illness or stillbirth. At the family’s request, one of our volunteer photographers comes to the healthcare facility and performs an onsite photo shoot. The photos are then professionally retouched and presented to the family in a DVD slideshow format with music as well as a CD of high-resolution images. We provide this service directly to families, thus NILMDTS is not a HIPAA covered entity. While the nurses and social workers are the ones who call us 90% of the time to let us know a family is in this situation and to see if we have a volunteer available, they are simply the “go-between” to inform us there is a need, meaning we are not “vendors” of the hospital, instead we serve as guests of the patient just like Chaplains and Pastors.

To offer a supportive place for parents to grieve, we administer a Family Forum on our website, http://www.nowisleep.com/. We have received tremendous approval from parents on the forum for creating a place for families to gather and work through their grief together with others who have experienced similar situations. At this same web site we offer a second forum for photographers to counsel each other through their sessions and provide coaching to new members.

Well.....I have to apologize for my absence from writing in this blog. Time is a precious comodity and I have had little time to do much but work! This is a blessing and I am so thankful for the work! I will be posting soon some images that have been keeping me so busy. I think you will enjoy the images!

With sweat dripping down my face as I work oustide and photograph in different venues, I know that Summer is here in full force. With all the warm weather, I know that in just a little while we will be in the middle of Fall and looking forward to Friday nights at High School Football games! I can hardly wait, so in the meantime.....I will watch baseball with a passion! My St. Louis Cardinals have been playing pretty well so far this year, but as a typical fan, I want them to win ALL the time. Last Saturday, my pretty wife, Joy and Philip and I went to a Smokies game! They are on fire this second half of the season and I plan to attend some more games.

I mentioned Joy in the previous paragraph....I thought this would be a great opportunity to update you on her health. She still has the hematoma on her liver and at present we are waiting results from a CT scan she had several days ago. She and I both expect a good report. She has been getting around and working again. We have been truly blessed that the Lord saw fit for Joy to stay on this earth a bit longer.

Philip is preparing to take the MCAT test in August and for his Senior year at UT. Wow!!! Time really does fly! Soon, he will be applying to Medical Schools and we will be starting another chapter of his life! I am so proud of him, he truly is a gift from God!

Wow...January just got by me.....What a month it has been. I was truly looking forward to a normal January, but that was not the case. On January 17th n the wee hours of the morning I had to rush my lovely wife, Joy, to the emergency room. Well we made it to Baptist West at Turkey Creek where we learned Joy had a bleeding liver. VERY DANGEROUS and rare. It was truly a blessing that I got Joy to the hospital when we did as they informed us that had her covering of the liver had ruptured, she could have bled to death. Needless to same Philip & myself were alarmed. Joy on the other had handled all of this like the trooper she is. She has been and still is on strong pain killers as she lets her liver heal itself. God is so awesome! It just blows me away how the human body can heals itself! Well, after a week in the hospital under close observation by Dr. Roberts, he released her on January 23. Currently she is under strict Doctor's orders not to do anything physical, not to be around crowds, not to be around anyone with infections and not to drive for at least 30 days. Dr. Roberts pretty much assured Joy that she would have extreme pain for these 30 days as well. So.....please...please keep my precious Joy in your prayers!

I wanted to take some time to first say: Merry Christmas!!! And then I wanted to say "Thank You!" to all of our clients that participated in our Christmas Promotion this year. Your generosity by donating unwrapped toys for Mission of Hope was awesome! I am so proud that together we were able to fill our barrel! Actually our barrell was overflowing and then the donations kept coming! What a heart for giving! I know the children that received the gifts were thrilled! Thanks again!

Good morning from Missouri!

This week I will be in Hayti photographing Cheerleaders on Tuesday, November 6th @ 4:00PM.

We are to meet in the gym lobby! I always look forward to working with Cheerleaders as they are always so creative in how they want their images to turn out!

Wednesday, November 7th (Joy's and my 26th anniversary...It has been a great 26 years and as most of you are well aware, I married UP!!!)

Starting early in the morning (November 7th) I will be set up to photograph the Senior males at Hayti High School. Portraits will be starting at 7:30AM AND then a lot of these young men will be heading north for their Football playoff game...GOOD Luck Indians!!!

Thursday, November 8th starting around 7:30AM again, I will be photographing the HHS girls for their senior portraits! These young ladies may be very tired after going to see the "Tribe" win in the playoffs! But none the less, I am sure they will all look GREAT!

The new movie, Good Luck Chuck, had a screening in Knoxville yesterday evening at Regal Cinema's Pinnacle Theater in Knoxville, TN! This was a benefit screening that had tons of people showing up to get a glimpse of either Jessica Alba or Dane Cook (the movies star performers). Money raised from the event was approximately $260,000. The monies will be donated to East Tennessee's Chapter of Variety, a children's charity.

At the benefit, Jessica and Dane unveiled plaques that will be embedded in the sidewalk in front of the Pinnacle. Before the unveiling of the plaques, Jessica and Dane did a meet and greet with VIPs that made significant donations to Variety.

Gallery Portraits was working for a fellow photographer in Knoxville to help cover the event for Regal Cinemas.

CMS Majorettes, Cheerleaders & Flags

Talked today with the sponsor for the CMS Majorettes today and we scheduled portraits for not only the majorettes, but the CMS Cheerleaders and Flags as well!

The shoot will take place on Hopke Field and the Majorettes will start @ 3:30PM and the Cheerleaders and Flags will follow @ 4:00PM. Prices will be given to each student to fill and bring with them (and don't forget your payment!) on Thursday, October 4th!

NOW Scheduling appointments in the Caruthersville, MO area!!!

I am currently taking appointments for portraits in Caruthersville, MO.

I will be in Caruthersville from October 4th thru October 10th. During this time I will be photographing the CHS homecoming festivities and the Dance on Saturday, October 6th. CHS yearbook/composite portraits will be made on Tuesday, October 9th and Wednesday, October 10th. Letters were mailed to all seniors on September 14th advising students of all the requirements to be included! If you do not receive your letter, send me and email and I will promptly email you a copy!

SENIORS: If you are interested in having your PERSONAL senior portraits taken during this week that I will be in town, call me at 865/670-760 or send me an email.

Soldier from Missouri Bootheel Killed in Black Hawk Crash

Rickey Bell was a senior from the Caruthersville High School class of 2005. I recently learned of Ricky's death from my sister, Mary Stutzman, who resides in Caruthersville. I was told how the town is in shock of losing one of its own. I too am in shock.....Ricky will be missed.

I remember the day I photographed his senior portraits. Seems almost like it was yesterday. The day was not one of the more photogenic days, but it all worked out GREAT. Rickey, you see, was an optimist.......always had a smile on his face. AND his portraits I thought turned out GREAT.

Photographing now for 25 years, I have seen a lot of tragedy and loss. Seems that Caruthersville has had way more than its share of tragedy these past few years. Suicides, tornadoes, loss of jobs and now the loss of a fine young man.....a hero.

Thank you Rickey for serving your country with honor. Thank you Rickey for protecting my rights and our way of life. I know that Caruthesville is grieving now, but I can't help but think that Caruthersville is such a better place because of people like Rickey Bell. Flags fly at half staff as a Caruthersville comes together to mourn the loss of their hero Specialist Rickey Bell.

Army Spc. Rickey L. Bell, 21, of Caruthersville, Mo.; assigned to the 4th Squadron, 6th U.S. Air Cavalry Regiment, Fort Lewis, Wash.; died Aug. 22 in Multaka, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his helicopter crashed.

Specialist E-4 Rickey Bell was a gunner on the Black Hawk that the military says went down because of mechanical problems and not hostile fire.

The Pentagon says the Black Hawk helicopter was one of two taking part in a night-time operation. The crash is the worst single-day death toll in Iraq since January and the worst helicopter crash for Americans in the last two years.

To Janice, 'Big Rickey" & Nikki..........know that Joy, Philip & I will miss Rickey and that we are praying that you will come to terms with his sacrifice and know that God has accepted him into His Kingdom telling him, well done faithful servant!

Well, today was not the best for all of us Cardinal fans out there as the Cubbies took the first of a 4 game set 2-1. The Cards dropped back a half game to 3 games out of first as the Brew Crew and the Cubbies are deadlocked in first. This will be a great weekend of baseball and I am so proud the Cardinals have clawed there way back into the National League Central race.

Could the Brooms be coming out today??

The Cardinals are playing the Brew Crew today in Milwaukee and the Cards are paying for the sweep! Taking the Brewers today would move the Cardinals only 2-1/2 games out of first with the momentum in their favor! The series with the Cubbies starts tomorrow in Chicago and is equally important.

Good Morning from East TN.......what's on your mind today? Well, I have lots to do today....senior sessions and a consultation.

This is my first attempt at a blog so...I want to give it a go and see how it works out!

The air around here is orange as the vols are getting ready for the season to start and EVERYONE seems to ALWAYS be in a better mood (that means they spend more) when the Vols are playing! AND when they are winning.....well you just have to hang on! It is a great place to live and work!
